How To Hang Your Gate

  1. Dig the holes 900mm deep and make sure the posts are set in the width of the gate less 50mm.
  2. Fix the hinges to the gate (19mm drill bit for the adjustable bottom hinge, 10mm drill bit for the top strap bolts).
  3. Block the gate up to the posts so that the required ground clearance is achieved. Mark the under side of the hinges on the post and use this to give you position of the hinge pins.
  4. Fix pins to posts and hang gate on posts.
  5. Adjust the bottom hinge to ensure that the gate is level. When level secure the

Fixing your gate between two timber posts

  1. Set posts 600mm in the ground and set in place with concrete. (check the gap is correct before concreting then leave to set for 24 hrs)
  2. Fix the hinges to the gate.
  3. Offer the gate up to the post ensuring that there is enough ground clearance to open and close the gate.
  4. Pack up the gate to this position and fix the hinges to the post.
  5. Fix the gate catch to the gate and fix the latch to the post.
  6. Fix the shutting strip to the post so that the gate strikes the shutting strip as the catch locates. (This prevents the catch from breaking if the gate slams shut in the wind.)

Fixing your gate to the side of your house

  1. Fix the timber wall fillet to your brickwork using suitable wall bolts.
  2. Fix the hinges to the gate.
  3. Offer the gate up to the wall fillet ensuring that there is enough ground clearance to open and close the gate.
  4. Pack the gate up in position and fix the hinges to the wall fillet.
  5. Dig the hole for the closing post ensuring that the post is at least 600mm in the ground. But, most importantly, that it is level with the wall fillet.
  6. Position the gate in a closed position and move the post so that it is level with the wall fillet and that there is no more than a 10mm gap between the gate and closing post.
  7. Concrete the post in position and leave for 24 hrs.
  8. Fix the catch to the gate and the shutting strip to the post as per instructions above.
